about

NE ME QUITTE PAS: Parisian flavor with Jacques Brel and Django Reinhardt overtones. Leading melody line on violin, accordion and mandolin adding their own twang to the heartbreak. The title means “Do not leave me” and is stolen directly from Jacques Brel’s song of the same name.

lyrics

These damn damson and custard sunsets
Are wearing pretty thin
But they’re just objective correlatives
Of some turbulence within
Where the fields absorb the fiery orb
No more skies of salmon skin

Good night my love and fare you well
My heart it hurts like bloody hell
I robbed this chorus from Jacques Brel

Ne me quitte pas . . .

I found you in the perfumed dusk
You were callow you were young
And awkwardly you talked with me
In my bloody mother tongue
And now each evening comes around
Like the Götterdämmerung

That evening I remember well
The sky it shone like oyster shell
You leaned your face on my lapel
But never came to my hotel

Ne me quitte pas . . .

Ne me quitte pas . . .

You wilted against the stonework
And squinted at the dawn
You scorned my laggard footsteps
In the dew across your lawn
And now the sun each morning rises
Like des Gottes Zorn

This blighted world I am doomed to dwell
You find me in my lonely cell
With a soughing wind and a heavy swell
My ardour I’ve tried hard to quell
With several bottles of cheap Moselle
Lebe wohl chère Mademoiselle

Ne me quitte pas . . .
